The Rules in Playing Omaha Hi-Lo
Omaha Hi-Lo is one of the thrilling poker variants that provide community cards to players. Knowing its rules will give a player a great advantage over others. The mechanics of the game is not that complicated as compared to other Omaha variations. It is necessary that every gambler who wants to be successful in playing Omaha Hi-Lo should first master its rules before that player explore other relevant elements of the game such as its betting structure and effective techniques to use.
First of all it will be helpful to know the objective in playing the game. Every Omaha Hi-Lo player aims to get the strongest as well as the weakest poker hand because players who have the highest and lowest poker hands win. This means that in every game, a maximum of two players will be declared as winners.
If a particular gambling facility does not provide the dealer for this game, a chip that will indicate who the dealer of the round will be given by the house. The dealer will distribute four cards that are faced down to each player. The dealer will also provide five community cards that are faced up in the table.
Players will place their ante bets in the pot. Just like in Texas Hold'em, there are blind bets in Omaha Hi-Lo. The player sitting in the left side of the dealer is required to place a small blind bet. Hence, the next player who is sitting in the left side of the gambler who placed a small blind bet will place a big blind bet. Since the dealer's chip rotates, the small blind bet and the big blind bet also rotates.
There are four rounds in a single game of Omaha Hi-Lo. In the first two rounds, players should place the amount of the low limit bet while in the last two rounds, players are required to place the amount of the high limit bet.
In the first round, each player is given two cards that are faced down. The player in the left of the gambler who placed a big blind bet is the first to decide whether to fold, raise or call. The action in the round continues in a clockwise manner.
At the second round, three community cards that are faced up will be dealt. The action starts with the player who sits in the left side of the dealer. The rules in the first round also apply to this round.
Meanwhile, at the third round, the dealer will open the fourth community card. In this round, all the bets that were placed by players should be equivalent to the size of the high limit bet in the game. In the last round, the final community card will be opened. All the players who did not decide to fold will have a showdown. Players who hold the biggest and smallest hand ranking will split the pot.
